Born in 1971 in Moscow, Russia.
Lives and works in Russia.

She is a graduate of the Zurich School of Art (Switzerland) F + F.

Trained in Rebecca Horn's studio in Berlin, this Russian artist questions social behavior and the status of performance in public actions in which she is involved until she becomes physically in danger. Overcoming the sometimes tenuous barrier of the codes of representations, Elena Kovylina comes into play beyond the artifices until provoking a malaise.

Some of the places where she has presented her work or performed have included: Whitney Museum, New York; Museum of Modern Art, Moscow; Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana; International Performing Arts Festival, Salzburg; Kunsthalle, Hamburg; 1st Praguebiennale; the Sydney Biennale; the Moscow Biennale; Performance Festival RIAP, Quebec; MAK Schindler House for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles.
