Sten Lex is a duo of artists, both born in 1982, respectively from Roma and Taranto in Italy. They work together since 2000 and they are considered as the pioneers of urban stencil in Italy.
Mixture of stencil and op art, Sten Lex’s monumental works are made from thousands of strips of paper and xacompose portraits of people, anonymous or not, that both artists have photographed or found among family albums.
For them, their influences are among the work en plein air of the impressionists  as well as the silk-screen printing and the pixel-based printing a stylistic standpoint.
In 2008, Sten Lex showed at the Banksy Cans Festival bringing together 39 international artists including Blek Le Rat, Faile and Vhils. It was in 2009 that Sten Lex have developed their technique combining collage, stencil and op art, creating unique works both poetic and powerful.
In 2013, the exhibition at Magda Danysz Gallery was a turning point for their work. For the first time, they show abstract pieces where the line become chaotic, inspired by pencil ' sketches, realized with the same technique of their early works . With this abstract line, Sten Lex make out of the traditional use of stencil in the street art. They use this abstraction to realize works on walls worldwide from Bari to Shanghai.
